About FindGuides
FindGuides publishes plain, practical guides to travel and outdoor gear. This page explains how we work.
What we publish
FindGuides covers three areas: travel, outdoors and camping. Each guide is a how-to or a buying guide written to answer one question well, such as how a temperature rating is measured or what actually fits in a cabin bag. We write about categories of gear and what to look for in them, rather than ranking specific products.
How we research
We start each guide from primary sources where they exist: the published testing standards, manufacturer technical documentation, and the established practices of the activity. We aim to explain the mechanism behind a piece of advice, so you can judge it yourself, rather than asking you to take a recommendation on trust. When a rule depends on something that changes, such as an airline allowance or a security regulation, we say so and point you to the official source to confirm the current detail.
We keep claims conservative. We do not make medical claims, and we avoid absolute promises about performance, because gear behaves differently for different people in different conditions. Where there is a genuine trade-off, we describe both sides instead of pretending one option wins outright.
Independence
We do not accept payment for placement, coverage or favourable wording. No company can pay to appear in a guide or to change what a guide says. If we ever use affiliate links or run advertising in future, we will disclose it clearly and it will not influence our advice. You can read more on our advertising and affiliate disclosure page.
Corrections
We would rather be corrected than be wrong. If you spot an error, an out-of-date figure, or a point that reads as misleading, email us at [email protected] and we will review it. When we correct something that changes the substance of a guide, we update the guide and note that it was revised.
Who writes the guides
Guides are published under the byline FindGuides Editors. We do not invent individual author profiles, awards or credentials, and we do not claim a history or a scale we do not have. FindGuides is an independent publication, and these pages reflect how it actually operates today.
